Why should coaches have to be interviewed cause of their skin color. It should be qualifications, and how good they are at their job

Reading this comment section: The rule is to LEGITIMATELY INTERVIEW MINORITIES, no one said just hand them a job. The fact so many people are this pissed off kinda shows why it needs to be a rule. WOW lotta people racist AF Sincerely how are so many so pissy over THIS video? Black people acting to ENTITLED cuz this rule?

The Rooney rule should have already made football better for EVERYONE, but because its been treated as a joke and not been sincerely practiced, the same jackass failures like Adam Gase get HC jobs repeatedly. if your black they want you playing the game only. Nothing illustrates that more than the hiring of urban meyer and then his hiring of the guy JUST RECENTLY FIRED for being racist.

Its hard for it to work since most GMs want to hire the best candidate (shocker), and a lot of the time a coach of color isn't as qualified.

What all the people saying “skin color doesn’t matter, you should be hired based on your skill/qualifications” aren’t understanding is this: yes, everyone with half a brain knows you should hire based on who’s best fit for the job. You’re looking at it as if everyone has the same opportunities. Affirmative action and the Rooney rule and things like that aren’t just “to get more people of color into these jobs” it’s “people of color don’t HAVE the same opportunities for these jobs by default as often as white people do, so we’re gonna go out of our way a little bit to do what we can to make that happen and close that gap.”

Here's a little nugget of info: Every year either (or both sometimes) Lovie Smith or Marvin Lewis get interviews for HC positions in order to satisfy the Rooney Rule. The problem with the rule isn't so much the rule itself. It's the fact that most teams already have their minds made up prior to interviews. You just...sorta legally HAVE to conduct at least 2 interviews. At the end of the day, it is what it is.

There will be plenty of options next season for deserving candidates next season. Bienemy seems to be the most prominent HC candidate that didn’t get chosen. Now I don’t want to get into the legal stuff he was in, but I believe the only team he wanted to go to was either the Jets or Jags. Seeing how both wanted another guy, he went to interviews but knew he didn’t want to join these teams. The lions? No way. The Texans? Absolutely not. He wants to go where there is a team on the right track and just needs a couple of pieces. I believe Bienemy possibly got an offer to join the Texans and said no. Why would he leave the arguably best offense in the league to go to the most inept franchise in the league? Any person with the brain capacity can see that is a terrible move. I believe next offseason or the one after he will find his team. It’s not always the franchise, its the decision of those coordinators as well. That should be kept in mind as well.
Joe Schmidt
Joe Schmidt 6 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
Oof, they didn’t even say anything offensive, but people sure are getting defensive in the comments. They’re not saying we shouldn’t hire people based on qualifications, they’re just trying to point out that in a league that is majority African Americans, one would expect to see a few more African American head coaches.
Joe Schmidt
Joe Schmidt 4 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
@Viet Boy That's just downright racist and ignorant. There are way too many different levels of development across Asia, Africa, and South America to make any such claim.
Viet Boy
Viet Boy 4 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
@Joe Schmidt There are studies, they just aren't allow due to fear of cancellation and the political correctness culture. I don't care about Asian Americans, I'm comparing people in their natural habitat. Comparing Asian countries to African and Latino countries. You see a huge differences despite having similar environment.
Joe Schmidt
Joe Schmidt 4 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
@Viet Boy You can't find a reputable study stating that there are IQ differences between races. What you can do is point to reality, which shows us that Asian Americans are doing better academically. As you point out, this doesn't mean they have higher IQs, yet you try to make that argument anyways.
Viet Boy
Viet Boy 4 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
@Joe Schmidt Academic performance isn't a good indicator of intelligence. One can do well in education by hard work and memorization. Intelligent is how creative someone is and if they are capable of doing things that other can't such as invention and leadership skills. For example Chinese people living in the desert region are turning the desert into a livable environment. Meanwhile African countries have never been able to do that nor think about it. If there is physical differences in our body, then there is physical differences in our brain. I did the bare minimal in school, still did better than 99% of the school. My brain is excellent at memorization and creativity. I can memorize an entire two pages speech in less than an hour. I also have a flair for business, I'm not rich by any mean, but I have ongoing income for life just by thinking outside of the box before everyone else with my business venture. But you need a certain IQ to be able to do these things. You can be school smart and still have to work your entire life because you can't think outside of the box.
Joe Schmidt
Joe Schmidt 4 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
@Viet Boy It's a very difficult area to research, but many would attribute better academic performance among certain racial groups, specifically Asian Americans, to a certain upbringing. It is easy to see how upbringing can affect one's academic performance, whereas it is difficult to nail down one specific upbringing that is going to make someone athletic enough to make it into the NFL.

This Is like that one esports team that had an all female group. They failed miserably by being chosen because they were female. Only instead of gender, it's race in this situation. Long story short: people should be hired based on skill.
BDough
BDough 3 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
funny that you dont get THATS THE EXACT POINT. THEY SHOULD BE HIRED ON SKILL, BUT THAT DOESNT HAPPEN IF NEVER EVEN GETTING AN INTERVIEW. All this video points out is that its a rule, to INTERVIEW, but when teams don't even do that in any way authentic than its really fucked up
Samuel Motta
Samuel Motta 3 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
@Shino It is actually a long story, and it is easy for us white people to go on and on about merit and such, but the truth is that the western civilization was constructed in a way that benefitted us from the jump, mainly through the exploration of black people, and this still shows today when, in a league where a large quantity of the athletes are black, only a few coaches, GMs and owners are so. Something is wrong and must be changed, people are not being offered equal opportunities, and that is not only in the NFL. I would ask you that you please reconsider your thoughts on the topic and do some research about race and inequality issues with an open mind
Shino
Shino 3 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
@Samuel Motta seems like short story long to me...
Samuel Motta
Samuel Motta 3 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ
Long story short: too many black people have been discarded from hiring processes, and its not because of skill. If anything, the Rooney Rule is about atleast giving a chance to candidades from diverse backgrounds, and its still not enough to make up for the gap between white-black people in positions of leadership/power in the NFL
G-Money
G-Money 6 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ

It’s also needs to be noted the details of the Interview are never released. Tomlin got his job bc he blew the Steelers away. Maybe they suck at the interview and need to improve that. HC are CEO of the franchise and perhaps owners aren’t comfortable putting people in front of a mike knowing how they would take the media. Remember coordinators don’t typically take questions in a press conference. So might not be because they are black just more to their skill set

@SteelyJedi10Productions MLK towards the end of his life started changing his views on racial inequality and systematic racism and prejudice. So yeah I get your point but the I have a dream speech wasn't even near solely what got civil rights laws and equality laws. There's a reasons why MLK was assassinated. There's reasons why Malcom X was also assassinated. They are deeper than what the elementary to high school level media level we're taught. Do your research. As far as hiring someone based on there qualifications goes...we all know that's BS in a lot of jobs. Example: black people and barbershops, how black people let white people cut their hair? It's mostly Hispanic and black barbers that we let cut our hair. Whose a barber going to hire if one person is white 2 others are black or Hispanic if in a minority neighborhood? Either the black guy or the hispanic guy. That in itself is prejudice.
